Wisdom tooth removal ( Third molar )

When wisdom teeth don’t have room to grow, they can become impacted and cause pain, oral infections, or other dental problems. Oftentimes, dentists will suggest wisdom tooth removal even if impacted teeth are not an issue, as a preventative measure.

The procedure is done by removing the wisdom teeth through surgical incisions and stitching the extraction site closed to aid in the healing. It is very important to follow your doctor’s instruction regarding the healing process to avoid excessive bleeding or blood clots.

Is it necessary to remove all wisdom tooth?

No, when the tooth doesn’t have enough space to come out, completely decayed, tooth which is in improper position are indicated for removal. Good wisdom teeth are saved by doing operculectomy (removing infected gums over wisdom tooth) procedure.

Questions you may want to ask your dentist or oral surgeon include:

  • How many wisdom teeth need to be removed?
  • What type of anesthesia will I receive?
  • How complicated do you expect the procedure to be?
  • How long is the procedure likely to last?
  • Have the impacted wisdom teeth caused damage to other teeth?
  • Is there a risk that I might have nerve damage?
  • What other dental treatments might I need at a later date?
  • How long does it take to completely heal and return to normal activity? All your doubts will be clarified before the procedures. Expected Postoperative complications will be informed priorly.

Soft tissue injuries include trauma to the skin or gums, such as cuts on the inside of the cheek, lips or tongue etc

Fractures of bone in your mouth are corrected by reconstruction to the jawbone and teeth. In some cases we use dental implants along with other methods of treatment and mechanics to repair jaw alignments and bone structure.
